WELCOME MICHAEL HARMON!!

I am very happy to announce the addition to The OTC Sports Center staff, Michael Harmon, SUNY Oneonta Men’s and Women’s head coach. He will be helping Paul with the opening of the property for the summer and hopefully you will take advantage of his experience in teaching and coaching. A special welcoming lesson rate will be available at the end of this month.

MICHAEL HARMON BIO

Michael Harmon joins OTC in April of 2024 with extensive tennis industry knowledge and 15 years of coaching experience. He is currently the head coach of SUNY Oneonta. Before SUNY Oneonta, Harmon served as head coach of Pacific Lutheran University and was the assistant coach for Mesa Community College in Arizona, where he led practices, recruited student-athletes, and enhanced the overall educational development of the students. In 2020, Harmon coached a player to runner-up in the Arizona State Championships at Notre Dame Prep.

He also worked with the top juniors in the Southwest at the Players Academy in Scottsdale, AZ with five going on to play at the collegiate level. Four of which played Division I and one who went Division III.

From 2009-11, he was the head coach at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, Missouri. While at St. Pius, Harmon guided the Warriors to a 56-4 record. Additionally, Harmon created and implemented a workout and injury prevention program that collegiate coaches adopted for their teams.

Harmon was the primary head tennis professional at the Clay view Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri, bringing in new members and maintaining the courts and equipment. 

A prolific college player, Harmon was a seven-time All-Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) selection at Westminster College and was named to the SLIAC All-Decade Team for 2000-2009. Harmon continues to play competitively and is one of the nation’s top tennis players in his age group. 

Harmon earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from Westminster College (Mo.) and Queen Mary College of London (U.K.). He holds a master’s degree in international business from Oklahoma City University. Harmon is also certified with the USPTA as a tennis professional.

Instruction will be given by Paul van der Sommen & Michael Harmon

Both instructors have a tremendous amount of tennis experience in teaching and playing. Each one has been ranked nationally in different categories.

Paul has recently picked up the game of pickleball and is now available to teach the game to anybody who would like to try. Pickleball is easy to learn and fun to play.

LESSON FEES

All fees are per court per hour. (One tennis court, Two pickleball courts)

Passholders: $70 – (4 players – $17.50. p.p.)

Non-Passholders $100 – (4 players – $25.00 p.p.)

There is no limit on the number of players that can be on the court for instruction or time limit.
